Digital Strategy of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group

Overview of Our Digital Strategy

  • Based on our Medium-Term Management Plan (FY2023–FY2025), we have identified four key focus areas for our Group’s digital strategy.
  • The four key focus areas are:

    • (1)
Expanding business domains in new digital economies
    • (2)
      Building data-driven decision-making mechanisms
    • (3)
      Radically transforming operations
    • (4)
      Implementing new capabilities
  • These initiatives are being led by Trust Base Co., Ltd., a digital subsidiary, which plays a central role in driving this transformation.
Four key focus areas

Details of four key focus areas

In response to rapid changes in society and technology, we are advancing initiatives in the following four key focus areas to deliver better services.

  • Expanding business domains in new digital economies

    • We are exploring the use of blockchain technology to securely store and manage crypto-assets (virtual currencies) and are working toward creating new business opportunities in this emerging field.
    • To establish a highly reliable crypto-asset management framework, we have founded JADAT (Japan Digital Asset Trust Preparatory Company, Inc.). This initiative lays the groundwork for future infrastructure that supports asset tokenization and digitalization.
  • Building data-driven decision-making mechanisms

    • By leveraging AI in our Group, we are building a system that enables faster and more objective decision-making based on vast amounts of operational data and document information.
    • Through our Data Fabric Initiative, we are integrating internal and external data on a unified analytics platform to support accurate and timely decision-making within our Group.
  • Radically transforming operations

    • We are broadly deploying technologies such as RPA and generative AI across our internal operations, driving automation and reducing operational burdens to enhance overall productivity.
    • In FY2025, we are placing particular emphasis on deploying and operationalizing Generative AI to drive further improvements in business efficiency.
  • Implementing new capabilities

    • We are actively promoting IT and digital reskilling programs for employees to strengthen both technological capabilities and talent development.
    • Trust Base serves as a hub for adopting advanced technologies and is also establishing a framework for delivering cloud-based services, thereby building practical expertise.
